ACQUISITION OF LAND (UNITED STATES AIR BASES)

An Act to amend the Acquisition of Land Act and to implement an agreement made between the government of the United States of America and His Majesty's government concerning air bases in the colony.

1. This Act may be cited as the Acquisition of Land (United States Air Bases) Act.

Short title.

2. It is hereby declared that the term "public purpose" as used in The Acquisition of Land Act includes the purpose of acquiring land by the Governor in Council at the Island of Great Exuma to implement any Agreement which may be made between the Government of the United States of America and His Majesty's Government concerning the acquisition of air bases in the Colony.

Interpretation.

3. The Treasurer is hereby authorised to pay out of the Public Treasury by warrant in the usual manner for the compensation of such persons as may have an interest in land acquired for the purpose stated in section 2 of this Act, such sum as may be determined whether by agreement, arbitration or compulsory purchase in accordance with the provisions of the Principal Act and the approval of the Governor in Council

Treasurer authorised to pay compensation.

4. The Governor in Council, or such person as the Governor in Council shall appoint, may grant a lease of land acquired under the authority of this Act and of the Acquisition of Land Act for the purpose of implementing the agreement referred to in section 2 of this Act.

Governor in Council may grant lease.
