CHAPTER 217

INFLAMMABLE LIQUIDS

An Act relating to the storage, safekeeping and conveyance of inflammable liquids and for other purposes.

1. This Act may be cited as the Inflammable Liquids Act.

Short title.

2. In this Act-

Interpretation.

"inflammable liquid" means any liquid which at temperature of or lower than 150 degrees Fahrenheit gives off an inflammable vapour or which has a flash point of less than 200 degrees Fahrenheit and shall for the purposes of this Act include gasoline, benzine, kerosene, paraffin oils, naphtha and bottled gas;

"Minister" means the Minister responsible for Explosives and Volatile Substances.

3. The Minister may make rules-

Rules for the storage and handling of volatile substances and inflammable liquids.

(a)
to regulate the mode of storing and the maximum amount of such inflammable Liquids to be kept in any store;
(b)
for the purpose of empowering and authorising the police or any other person authorised by the Minister to enter and inspect any store, warehouse or building where inflammable liquids are stored or exposed for sale;
(c)
to regulate the conveyance, loading or unloading of inflammable liquids and the description and construction of vehicles, ships, boats or containers to be used in the conveyance of same;
(d)
to prescribe penalties for breach of the rules not exceeding a fine of five hundred dollars on summary conviction for any such breach and for the forfeiture by the order of the court of any inflammable liquid in respect of which an offence has been committed.
